Sports train the students to face defeat with a smile and maintain the difference even in victory. It also makes our mind healthy by justifying the statement, “a sound mind resides only in a sound body”. Our students participated in Veer Narmand South Gujarat University Inter-collegiate tournaments and Khelmahakumbh at the District, State and National level in various games. They have represented the College at various National, West Zone, University and All India level Inter-University Tournaments of Taekwondo, Football, Hockey and Rifle Shooting. Fit India Movement: The importance of sports and fitness in one’s life is inevitable. Playing sports inculcates team spirit, develops strategic & analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting and risk taking. A fit and healthy individual leads to an equally healthy society and strong nation. Sports are an extremely important component for the overall development of our nation. So, our student also took Fitness Pledge to join Fit India Movement launched by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 29th August 2019. Indoor Sports Tournaments: 86 students enthusiastically participated in Intra-class Indoor Sports events like Table-Tennis, Chess, Carrom, Badminton and Billiards tournament organized round the year at Vanita Vishram Sports Complex and gave applauding performances. Participation and Achievements in Sports Tournaments: More than 85 Students participated in the Inter-Collegiate Sports Tournaments and 15 students participated in 47th Athletic Meet organized by Department of Physical Education and Youth Welfare of VNSGU. Also, 105 students participated in Khel Mahakumbh (Individual and Team Game) organized by Sports Authority of Gujarat and represented college at State, National and Inter-University level events. Participation in All India Inter-University and West-Zone Inter-University Tournaments: Achievements in National, State and Inter-Collegiate Sports Tournaments: Achievements in Khel Mahakumbh 2019-20 Annual Sports Day The much awaited Annual Sports Day was held on Saturday 11th January 2020, with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere. More than 506 students participated enthusiastically. The programme began with the Principal welcoming the esteemed gathering and emphasized on the importance of sports in students’ life. The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the oath being administered by the Gymkhana Committee Secretary Ms. Diya Patel of F.Y.B.Com. Many sports games like 100 and 200 meter running, 4 X 100m Relay, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, Shot Put, Long Jump, and recreation games like Triple Leg Race, Ball Pass Relay, Lemon & Spoon, Sack Race, Skipping Race, Yoga, Suryanamaskar were organized to boost the spirit of sportsmanship among students. Winners were felicitated with medals and certificates. Celebration of International Yoga Day: Students of the College actively participated in the International Yoga Day Celebration on June 21, 2018 wherein Three-Day Workshop on Yoga and Meditation was organized on the college premises. Ms. Taraben Desai, active volunteer & member, Akhil Vishwa Gayatri Parivar, Shantikunj, Haridwar explained importance of yoga and meditation through demonstration. Organization of Indoor Sports Tournaments: 89 students enthusiastically participated in Intra-class Indoor Sports events like Table-Tennis, Chess, Carrom, Badminton and Billiards tournament organized round the year in the Sports Complex of Vanita Vishram and gave applauding performances. Organization of Annual Sports Days: The Annual Sports Day of the college was organized on February 05-06, 2019 wherein more than 345 students participated enthusiastically. On the First Day, 100m running, 200m running, 4 X 100m Relay, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, Shot Put, Long Jump, Cricket, Tug of War, and on the Second Day Suryanamaskar, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Basketball, Volleyball and recreation games like Triple Leg race, Ball Pass Relay, Lemon & Spoon and Sack Race were organized. Participation in 46th Athletic Meet: 9 students participated in various events like Running, Jumping & Throwing of 46th Athletic Meet which was held at new synthetic 400m track of VNSGU between 8th March, 2019 and 10th March, 2019. Ms. Priyanka Gurjar & Ms. Akshata Kesuer reached in the Final Rounds in 5000m Running & Javelin Throw respectively. Participation and Achievements in Sports Tournaments: More than 60 Students participated in the Inter-Collegiate Sports Tournaments organized by Department of Physical Education and Youth Welfare of VNSGU and 80 students participated in Khel Mahakumbh (Individual and Team Game) organized by Sports Authority of Gujarat and also at State, National and Inter-University level events and brought credit and glory to the college by winning those events. Celebration of International Yoga Day: 140 students actively participated in the International Yoga Day Celebration on June 21, 2017 wherein One-Day Workshop on Yoga and Meditation was organized on the college premises and Ms. Jyoti Tailor, Sai Jyoti Clinic Surat taught the importance of yoga and meditation through demonstration. Also, students displayed posters on the theme of yoga and meditation made by them in the classes. Organization of Daily Sessions on Yoga: With a view to enhance the vitality of the mind and body of the students, daily sessions on Yogasana and Pranayam were conducted by the group of the students in the college premises from June 24, 2017 onwards. Around 25 students enrolled for the same and received the maximum advantage. They gained an insight on the importance of Yoga and Pranayam. Organization of Indoor Sports Tournaments: 65 students enthusiastically participated in Intra-class Indoor Sports events like Billiards, Table-Tennis, Chess, Carrom and Badminton tournament organized round the year in the Sports Complex of Vanita Vishram and gave applauding performances. Organization of Annual Sports Day: The Annual Sports Day of the college was organized on November 29-30, 2017 wherein more than 150 students participated enthusiastically. On the First Day of Sports Day, events like Suryanamaskar, Kho-Kho, Kabbadi, Basket Ball and Volleyball were organized and on the Second Day events like 100m Run, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, Shot Put, Cricket, Tug of War, etc. were organized. Medals and Certificates were awarded to the winners of the respective events on the day of Annual prize distribution through the hands of hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of VNSGU. Participation and Achievements in Sports Tournaments: Almost 30 students participated not only in the Inter-Collegiate Sports Tournaments organized by Physical Education Department of VNSGU but also at State, National and Inter University level events and brought credit and glory to the college by winning those events. 24 students participated in Gujarat Khel Mahakumbh organised by Government of Gujarat. To excel in sports, nearly 50 students practice regularly at the newly built Vanita Vishram Sports Complex for various sports like Billiards, Badminton, Table-Tennis, Lawn-Tennis and Chess. The laurels won by our students have made the college proud. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our achievers.
