It is rightly said by Margaret Fuller “Today a Reader, tomorrow a Leader”. Library is the heart in any educational institution that caters the needs of variety of clientele such as faculty, students, institute administrators and non-teaching institute staff. A wide range of subject fields are to be represented in our book stock with prime thrust for meeting the needs of students and faculty members. Besides this, for smooth functioning of the library and safe guarding the interest of all sections of the library users, formation of policies, rules & regulations and implementing the library policies is needed. To meet all the above objectives the Knowledge Centre of VVWCC functions smoothly supported by the Library Committee.
In order to inculcate habit of reading in students library committee has arranged various programmes during the year. Library Orientation: To make the newly admitted students aware about the various functioning and rules & regulations of the library, Library orientation programme was held for new Students. All students were registered in library and issued Library cum ID card having Barcode of library user number. N-List Consortium: Today technology is a part of everyday student’s life. Today’s generation is Techno-Savvy and e-Books and e-Journals are now a part of every student’s life. N- List is the programme developed by INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmedabad – An IUC by UGC. NLIST is “National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content”. College has subscribed NLIST and all students are registered for same. Abhigya Book Review Series: Library committee initiated monthly book review series “Abhigya”, under which every month a renowned person is invited to review a book. Students from different courses also reviewed their book in this series. So far eight sessions of Abhighya series has been conducted.
Library Week Celebration: Library week was celebrated from 27/01/2020 to 01/02/2020. During the celebration, various programmes had been organized to inspire young minds of college to read wide variety of literature and encourage them to use resources available at library. Visit to VNSGU Library: A group of 23 students along with librarian and Library Committee Secratery Prof. Neha Raval had visited VNSGU Library. Dr. B.J.Ankuya I/c Librarian of VNSGU library gave brief description about various functioning and areas of University Library. Special Session of Abhigya book review series: Dr Manisha Panwala, Professor of Marketing from Department of Business and Industrial Management, G.H. Bhakta Management Academy was invited as a guest speaker for the event. Dr Manisha Panwala reviewed a book “The Boos” written by herself and her father, the famous Gujarati writer Gunvant Shah. She encouraged students to read more for their holistic development. Book Review Competition: In order to develop literary critical skills among students a Book Review Competition was held on 29/01/2019. Students from B.Com and B.B.A participated in book review competition. Prof. Sapna Desai, Prof. Anamika Talesara and Prof Divya Patel judged the competition and gave their valuable inputs. Essay writing Competition: An essay writing competition was conducted on the topic “Relevance of Swami Vivekanand’s Thoughts in Today’s Era” on 31/01/2020. Around 16 students from B.Com and BBA participated enthusiastically in the competition. Poetry Recitation Competition: To improve the creative skills of students, Poetry Recitation Competition was conducted on 31/01/2020. Around 14 students from B.Com and BBA participated in the competition. Visit to Book Fair of SMC: Celebration of Library week ended with the much awaited visit to National Vidhya book fair 2020. Around 83 students from B.Com joined the library team to visit book fair. Library is well equipped with various educational as well as other reading material. As on 21/02/2020, Library houses 8615 books for general issue and 6553 books under Book Bank. During current academic year total 392 books for general and 1385 books for Book Bank have been purchased and available for issue. Total 13665 books were transacted in circulation round the year. This shows huge response of usage of library.

Various Programmes had been organised to inspire young minds of college to read wide variety of literature and encourage them to use resources available at library. Book Review Competition: To explore students knowledge about reading and reviewing skills, A Book Review Competition was held on January 21,2019. Total 25 Students had participated in it enthusiastically. Prof. Sapna Desai and Prof. Neha Rawal gave their valuable views on Book Review. Lecture by Esha Dadawala:To make students understand importance of reading and its impact on students life, Special Lecture of well-known Gujarati author and journalist Ms. Esha Dadawala was organised. She inspired the students to develop reading habits. Talk Show on Creative Writing & E-Library: A talk show by Mr. Naresh Kapadiya was organised to motivate students to write. The objective of this talk show was to bring out the potential of students to write. Mr. Naresh Kapadiya also gave knowledge to students about E-books and E-Publications and donated a CD consisting 1000 e-books to the college library. Visit to VNSGU Library: A group of 40 students along with Librarian and Library Committee Secratery Prof. Neha Rawal had visited VNSGU Library. Visit to Vidhya 2019: To keep students updated with current literature scenario and new publication trends, Visit to National Book Fair VIDHYA 2019 had been arranged. Around 50 students along with library committee members participated enthusiastically. Around 50 students along with library committee members participated enthusiastically. For day-to-day operations library is automated with SOUL 2.0 software. All books and student’s cards are barcoded and circulation of books is done with barcode reader facility. Library is having a well-furnished and spacious reading room with partition type reading tables where 50 students can be accommodated at a time. 5 computers with internet facility are available in the library so that student’s can access digital library resources. Library is palnning to start Digital Institutional Repository by next academic year. Our library is named as ‘Knowledge Center’. Itis well equipped with various educational as well as other reading material. As on 1st February, 2019, Library houses 7998 books for general issue and 5068 books under Book Bank. During current academic year total 548 books for general and 795 books for Book Bank have been purchased and available for issue. Total 19515 books were transacted in circulation round the year. This shows huge response of usage of library. In addition to this, the library has subscribed 17 peer reviewed journals, 26 magazines and 6 daily newspapers.
